The deadline for “PLURAL+” VIDEO FESTIVAL submissions is 30 September, 2009
International Organization for Migration (IOM) would like to remind young people of Ukraine (nine to twenty five years old) about the unique opportunity to participate in a competitive video festival
...“PLURAL +” that is exploring themes related to migration and diversity and will take place in New York. Winning videos will receive broad recognition and will be widely distributed through internet, broadcast, satellite, film festivals etc. as well as receiving small cash prize of USD 1,000.
Till September 30th 2009, youth from around the world will be able to create and submit videos on migration-related themes to the “PLURAL+” Video Festival. The videos will then be judged by a prestigious international jury including an internationally acclaimed Iranian film director, screenwriter and film producer Abbas Kiarostami.
Recognizing youth as powerful agents of social change in a world often characterized by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions, “PLURAL+” is aimed at involving youth in addressing the key issues in their community related to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness.
The practical contributions of young people - whether they are migrants, second-generation immigrants or non-migrants – can come not just by identifying constraints but also through promoting a climate of respect and appreciation for each other, helping to point the way towards a more enlightened world.
This youth project “PLURAL+ Video Festival” is a result of Istanbul Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, held on 6-7 April 2009. The Forum is the world’s premier event aimed at advancing intercultural understanding. This Second Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations mobilized the energy, imagination and ideas of a wide range of committed partners, from international organizations to media, from governments to civil society, and from religious leaders to youth.
IOM encourages youth to be creative in recording their thoughts, feelings and experiences on related topics such as migrant integration, identity, human rights, social inclusiveness. The videos will result from - and will further promote - dialogue and discussion about migration and diversity.
The “PLURAL+” Video Festival is supported by numerous international associated partner agencies such as UNICEF, The Anna Lindh Foundation, UNESCOCat, UN-DPI, CHINH India, Al Jadeed Television, Media that Matters Film Festival, NoGhetto, Without Borders Film Festival and the BaKaForum.
“PLURAL+” invites youth to do just that by submitting short videos on their thoughts, experiences, opinions, questions and suggestions on these issues and how to promote harmonious yet diverse societies. A prestigious international jury will announce the winners at an awards ceremony at New York's Paley Center for Media on 18 December 2009, coinciding with International Migrants Day.
